What it means to be a B Corp
B Corp certification is one of the most rigorous and holistic assessments of a company’s sustainability and ethical credentials. To qualify, businesses must score at least 80 points across five key impact areas:
Governance, Workers, Environment, Community, Customers.
We’re proud to have achieved a verified score of 88.1, reflecting our deep commitment to integrating responsible practices across every part of our business.
Our B Corp Journey
Since achieving B Corp certification in December 2023, we have engaged with the B Corp community through events including B Lab UK’s Louder than Words, B Locals and PurposeFest and other B Corp businesses. These connections help us share learnings and identify opportunities to improve.
We use the B Corp framework to support the integration of sustainability into our culture, strategy and operations. It informs and guides our decisions and helps shape our future plans.
Our Sustainability Progress
Our B Corp certification builds on work across Banner’s six sustainability pillars. In 2025, we have focused on the following actions: for example:
-
Product & Packaging
We're increasing the use of responsibly sourced materials in our product and associated packaging.
-
Climate Action
Working towards Net Zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040 and Scope 3 emissions by 2050, with action to reduce emissions from transport, commuting and more efficient energy use.
-
People & Culture
Embedding our ESG values with colleague training, engagement activites, and the SER Stars programme. Taking steps to support colleague wellbeing and inclusion across Banner.
-
Supply Chain Transparency
We work closely with suppliers to improve supply chain transparency and assess their alignment with our ethical sourcing requirements. We review supplier practices and policies against our defined sustainability commitments.
-
Giving Back
Growing and developing our charity, The Banner Foundation, supporting children and environmental causes. Expanding employee volunteering through our "Gift of Time" structed programme - giving every colleague the opportunity to take one paid day each year to support a charity or community project of their choice.
Looking ahead
In 2026 B Lab launched it’s new standards v2.2. They set out performance requirements across seven impact areas: Purpose and Stakeholder Governance, Fair Work, Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Human Rights, Climate Action, Environmental Stewardship and Circularity, and Government Affairs and Collection Action.
The requirements are tailored to each company’s size, sector and industry, and are designed to support continuous improvement over time. Banner’s next recertification is scheduled for December 2027 and we are preparing by working through the requirements that apply to us.
Why it matters
For us, becoming a certified B Corporation is a milestone, not a finish line. We are continuing our approach to responsible business across our operations and supply chain. Our work includes responsible sourcing, including Better Cotton membership, OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification for selected products, and further mapping of our supply chain, material certifications and community initiatives. We share updates on our progress and priorities with customers, suppliers and colleagues.
